REVIEW:
by Clifton from the message boards

“So after church I equipped my red wrist band and set off to Baltimore, I arrived around 4ish after fighting my away through a traffic detour but showed up at Rams Head. Shortly after arriving someone came and gave me meet and greet tickets which was awesome and put them in my wallet. There were few other people there at the time but enough to have a few good conversations. Anyway before the show they handed out the little slips of paper talking about the bootlegs and all so I pocketed it. Doors open and we all got our hands stamped and began to crowd around the front, I was dead front and center except behind one rather large lady who claimed that she had never heard Switchfoot in anyformat before but was given the tickets the night before. I was tempted to tell her to move away from front center but i didn’t. I sent off my Dad to preorder the bootleg. It was blank cased again.”

“After much waiting for the show to start the lights finally dimmed and out came Copeland, it was amazing. I am only familiar with Beneath the Medicine Tree and about 8 of their other songs and they happened to pick every single one I knew. The only song I knew off their second record was Pin Your Wings and they played it so that was awesome. Anyway I was hugely impressed with them, having already grown fond of them on record.”

“Anyway they finished and after about a half hour of setup the room went blank and out came Jon, by himself. He opened the concert with Only Hope. It was so amazing, its the only time I hav e ever seen them open with a non rocker, it was absolutely, well it was the best, especially cause thats the song I voted for and it lost to the Blues by a huge margin. Next the rest of the guys came out and Jon explained the Tim situation assuring us that he was fine and would be back for the next show. Drew took over his place and after offering the words that he had nothing to say, Stars began. Awesomeness. Then there was more talking as Drew went ack to guitar and Jeff took over bass for Oh! Gravity. More awesomeness. This is were things got awesome (super awesome that is), Jon jumps onto the railing as is his custom and there was this huge push from the people behind and I went right into him. Along with the other 4-5 people in my general vacinity he took our hands and had us start Awakening. I’m on the bootleg because he stuck the mic right in my face. Anyway that was super fun. Then came Ammunition where he did another clasping of hands with the same group of us. Next came American dream and with it the longest pause I think they have ever done, it was ridiculous, (looking at the bootleg it was only a minute and a half). Anyway that was cool. I don’t remember the order exactly but I’ll do highlights. The voted song was the Blues. During 4:12 when Romey was playing with the vocoder Jon got this very Jonish excited look on his face and just stared at him, it was priceless. This is Your Life was played with Jon on the floor hitting pedals and screaming. They played We Are One, Gone, Company Car. Andy Barron played at least 4 songs I’d say. Couldn’t tell you which ones until I see the set list. When Copeland’s bassist came out Jon and him had a conversation about nice words and then Jon went into his westerny cowboy song about saying nice words to each other in Baltimore. Then he did exactly what I had been hoping for, my favorite song, On Fire where we had our lovely yelling display.”

“During Shadow Proves the Sunhine he ran to the middle of the venue and climbed on this sound console thing and continued the song from there. Then he started Learning to Breathe from the back. Towards the middle of the song he came back down and started walking forward and I realzied he was coming right at me. When he got where I was he stopped moving forward he looked me square in the eye and we sang at each other, it was amazing. Then he continued to attempt to move forward but people were pulling him back, so I helped push him in the right direction”

“His shirt was soaking wet. After Meantto Live they went off and “one more song” started. Jon came out and encored with 24 which made people happy and then they all came out with Jerome on bass and played Dare You To Move and I relized how relavent it was that when he said “Lift Yourself Up Off The Floor”, I was mid air from jumping. Then they went off. I just sorta stood there estatic.”

“People started to clear out and I noticed the guys had come out upstairs for us to talk to them and stuff so I started to move that way and they guy guarding the area askedfor my passess so I went to pull out my wallet. And then I realized that my wallet was gone. Someone stole it during the show. I was really mad. They were like 10 feet away from me but I couldn’t meet them. My heart broke. My dad insisted we go home.”

The Baltimore concert was absolutely awesome. It was grat to hear Switchfoot play some of their old songs like Only Hope, Learning to Breath, Company Car and others. The crowd was really into the concert all night long and as always Switchfoot really plays a great on stage show. Hears hoping all is well with Tim Foreman and continued huge sucess for Switchfoot in the music industry.

I like this version of “Only Hope” a lot better than the studio version. It’s so much more real without the huge production…just Jon and his guitar up on the stage.

This was my 2nd switchfoot show with the previous one being at sonar. Disappointed that tim was absent cuz musically on some songs it was definitely noticable. I did not like the venue personally. Unless you are within 20 feet of the stage there is not a good “seat” in the place. Jon kind of stole the spotlight because of tim’s absence which is certainly not a bad thing. The standing on the soundboard area and immersed in the crowd was a nice touch and the setlist was varied and each album was represented accordingly. Liked sonar better though.

I agree, chad - it was a lot of fun experiencing a show where they had to make things work in a new way, and they had tons of fun doing it. However, I also noticed that many of the songs were lacking musically without Tim. Either because they turned the bass amp down (which they definitely did), or because they simplified the bass part.
but hey, (no offense to Tim, but) I can see tim at any other concert. This was a once-in-a-lifetime experience (hopefully) that I was glad to be a part of.
and it was refreshing to not hear every silence filled with shrieks of “TIM YOU’RE SO HOT!!!”

i went to this concert, and although i was slightly disappointed at first that tim wasn’t there, jon found a way to make me, and i’m sure a lot of other people too, forget about that and just enjoy the show. they had several people play the bass part, including andy, which was cool. i went with my friend and, although we got there a little after the doors opened, we still got great spots right in front of jerome. copeland was a surprising good band, since i was expecting something less than what i heard, which was good because i wasn’t constantly waiting for them to finish. at one point during the concert, jon jumped down off the stage, and walked past my friend and i, and made his way to the sound board in the back. meaghan was psyched when he walked past us, and so was i because we got to touch him, and weird as that sounds (whatever..) that was definitely a highlight of the concert. i’ve been to two concerts, and this one was definitely the best one ever. i have a lot of memories from the concert, and so does meg. thank you switchfoot!

This concert was AMAZING!!!!!!!!! My dad and I brought three of my friends, and then in Baltimore we met up with…uh…lets see…seven other friends. We went to save a spot in line two hours early. I am so glad we did. We were sitting there for like an hour and we got really hungry, so we walked across the street to McDonalds. We ordered fries and waited 45 minutes for them to come. Somebody stole our original order! Anyway, we came back into line and when we had left, there was only a few ppl in line, but then there was a line all the way outside. So we went in and we were right in front. It was amazing!!! Jerome winked at my friend. We were front and center, except for this guy with a blue shirt on. There’s a funny story behind that. So anyway, when Jon put his hand down the one time, he winked at me and grabbed my hand and pulled me up towards the front. I was like a midget in the crowd, I was the tiniest one. So yeah, the only bad part was that this one girl next to our group kept farting. Anyway…GO TO ONE OF THEIR CONCERTS!!!!!
